TYPOLOGY
For my typology selection, I chose Jeff Brouws. This series is called Twentynine Palms made in 1990-1991. He does a lot of typology photographs, usually of manmade objects and architecture, like cars and signs. I was drawn to this particular typology because the theme was so obvious, but each photo was so different. Using the Paul Davis chart, I think this series is 10/20
Subject: 4 Each photo features a different palm or the word palm. However, in some of the photos it is only implied, like with the crystal balls. It is clear that palms are the center of the piece and the subject is the strongest category.
Environment: 2 The environment is different in every photo and in some there is no environment. There is no cohesiveness to the relationship of the environment and the photos.
Process: 2 The composition of the photos vary. Some are very up close, some are at night, some are from a distance. The process does not suggest any relationship.
Presentation/direction: 2 The photos seem to be taken at all different angles. I don't see any super clear direction in the photos.
